Ishan Kishan led the way with a dynamic 77 runs off 40 balls, helping India reach a score of 175/7, while the bowlers then restricted Pakistan to just 114 runs. This win marked India's dominant record against Pakistan in T20 World Cups at 8-1. Pakistan won the toss and chose to bowl first on a pitch favored for spin. India faced an early setback when Abhishek Sharma was dismissed without scoring, but Ishan Kishan took the lead with his aggressive batting. His total of 77 included strong shots that put pressure on the Pakistani bowlers. Suryakumar Yadav added 32 runs, Shivam Dube scored 27, and Tilak Varma made 25 runs, helping India reach 175/7. Saim Ayub was the standout bowler for Pakistan with figures of 3/25, but the target was tough to chase.
While chasing a target of 176, Pakistan's batting quickly fell apart. Hardik Pandya got his team off to a great start with a maiden over that included the wicket of Sahibzada Farhan. Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakravarthy each took two wickets, and Axar Patel also contributed with two wickets. Usman Khan tried to fight back with 44 runs, and Shaheen Shah Afridi was not out at 23, but Pakistan was all out for 114 in just 18 overs. The day's events showcased India's strength in their major game and highlighted strong performances from the West Indies and USA in their matches.
Ishan Kishan's remarkable 77 runs off 40 balls against Pakistan in Colombo on Sunday was not just a powerful knock, but a pivotal one that changed the story of India's batting in this intense rivalry and earned high praise from captain Suryakumar Yadav. In the T20 World Cup 2026 Group A match at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Ishan Kishan's onslaught guided India to 175 for 7 and secured a clear 61-run victory.
