Rajasthan Royals have announced that head coach Rahul Dravid will not be continuing with the team as they prepare for IPL 2026, marking a sudden end to his second time with the franchise. The team released a statement saying that the 52-year-old star, who was hired on September 6, 2024 under a long-term contract, was offered a wider role after a recent review of the team's structure but chose to decline that offer. "Rahul has played a key role in the Royals' journey for many years. His leadership has shaped a generation of players, established strong values within the team, and left a lasting influence on the franchise's culture," the statement mentioned.

"As a result of the franchise's review, Rahul was offered a broader role within the organization but decided not to accept it. The Rajasthan Royals, along with its players and millions of fans worldwide, express their heartfelt gratitude to Rahul for his outstanding contributions to the team." The former captain of India was also a key player and coach for the Royals from 2011 to 2015 before returning last year after successful coaching that led India to a T20 World Cup victory. However, his return was short-lived. The Royals faced a disappointing 2025 season, finishing ninth with only four wins out of 14 games, with several matches lost after being in winning positions. Dravid experienced difficulties throughout the coaching season and was mostly in a wheelchair after injuring his foot while playing in a club cricket match in Bengaluru.

Aiming to win their second title following the victory in 2008, the franchise may now look for a new head coach or possibly return the role to Kumar Sangakkara, who was promoted to Director of Cricket when Dravid was brought on board.
